The latest updates from aask us

14 years and going strong

Anthony Chadley - Tuesday, August 07, 2018

August is always a time to reflect for me, as it’s the anniversary of when aask us started trading.

We have now been in business for 14 years, in what is still a relatively “new” industry, and we have gone from a 2-man band to a 2-factory orchestra!

14 years of trading puts us as the second oldest manufacturer (and hat’s off to SAS for being the oldest and biggest!), and it’s a tough industry to be in. Over my 30+ years in the manufacturing industry I have seen some big names fall by the wayside; Martingale, HT Systems, Grosvenor Profiles, Quality in Components….

So, what will ensure another 14 years (and more!!) of successful business? The answer is pretty simple, we stick to our philosophy that we set at day 1

·         Always give the customer what they want,

·         Be truthful

·         With honesty comes responsibility.

Thank you to each and every customer who has ensured our success…..

If you are still missing out, then email our sales team; sales@aask.us and you will understand why everyone else asks us!

Sheet Metal Raft

Anthony Chadley - Tuesday, April 17, 2018

Great installation by Sound Interiors of the sample raft we manufactured. Good collaboration on the design to ensure the client gets what they need, but is simple to install. Many more to go after approval at Bowmer & Kirkland site in Colwyn Bay. If you need something out of the ordinary then contact our sales team; sales@aask.us

New nominations are open for the FIS President's Awards 2018 - just a quick reminder of the current "Outstanding employee of the year"

FIS "Employee of the Year"

Anthony Chadley - Wednesday, February 15, 2017

We are delighted that Simon Cammidge has won the prestigious "employee of the year" at the FIS Presidents Awards ceremony. Simon impressed the judges who considered the skills and dedication of employees from across the industry, and awarded the ultimate prize to Simon in recognition of his work in establishing a Sheet Metal production facility at aask us Ltd;

Simon joined the company in 2013 after being the general production manager at one of their competitors who unfortunately went into administration. Simon joined the production team where he provided some helpful guidance into improving work capabilities and efficiencies. Simon approached Managing Director, Anthony Chadley, in early 2015 with a concept to increase their production range by opening a sheet metal division. He had been working at home on various ideas, costing solutions on spread sheets, discussing possibilities with old contacts and generally seeing if there was a viable opportunity. By the time Simon approached Anthony he had worked out the costs, the products and the market, and from there the decision to invest in Simon and the new division was easy. aask us "Sheet Metal" went from a standing start to a new factory with full production capabilities within 5 months. The doors opened in late 2015 and over the first 12 months have manufactured a vast array of products from blind boxes, ceiling panels, wall cladding panels, Juliette balconies.. in fact, the list is endless. Simon has driven this project forward, he has made it work, with dedication, hard work and good old sheer bloody-mindedness!

Anthony reflects on some of the skills that encouraged him to nominate Simon;

Simon’s strengths are in these key areas;

Reliability - Simon is first in / last home. He takes business calls at home and at weekends. He has been at meetings at 8am on site 200 miles from home. If he says he will get something made by a date, it will be done.

Initiative - Simon is always looking for ways to improve what we do, how we do it, and who we do it for. Our range of products is matched by our range of customers.

Professionalism - Simon always represents my company as I would myself. I rely totally on him for all matters relating to this division.

A final thought on why I think Simon won; I think the manufacturers who support the Interiors are not acknowledged enough. The aesthetically pleasing projects that installers demonstrate their skills rely upon a team behind the scenes who manufacture quality products. Simon recognised this and has ensured aask us Ltd can be the manufacturer of choice for specialist installers. He has literally single-handed taken a concept through to success in a matter of months.

Anthony Chadley - Friday, July 08, 2016

All of us at aask us are really proud and delighted to announce that our Apprentice Elliott Gingell was awarded "Most Improved Apprentice".

Elliot joined our newly formed Sheet Metal division in April of this year, and has been involved in manufacturing diverse products; from Blind Boxes, to Juliette Balconies.

Managing Director Anthony Chadley said of Elliott "I am really pleased for Elliott, he has shown a great attitude to learning and has become an integral part of our Sheet Metal division. He is the future of our business, and we should encourage young apprentices by rewarding them and making them feel they are part of the team".

Our new Apprentice Elliott

Anthony Chadley - Wednesday, April 20, 2016

aask us Ltd are delighted to welcome Elliott to the company on a three year Engineering Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. Elliott joined the company on 1st March, already one year into an Apprenticeship course, and has quickly settled into our Sheet Metal division based in Brackley. Elliott is excited to be part of our new enterprise, and has already become a key member of the team. As part of his training Elliott visited London to see some of our products in-situ, and was very impressed with the quality of the installation. Elliott said "It was really useful to see where the product goes, and just to get an idea of how every component is part of a big jigsaw. It was also good to hear that aask us was such an important part of making sure the sites kept on programme". We would like to thank SIG Southwark, Integra Contracts at One Marbledon Place and Measom Dryline at Seagrove Road site.

John Lewis at Basingstoke

Anthony Chadley - Wednesday, January 13, 2016
aask us have recently completed the manufacture of 215 bespoke ceiling fins for the new John Lewis ‘Home Hub’ in Basingstoke as part of a recently completed combined JL and Waitrose new build project.

The fins and suspension brackets have been produced at our new sheet metal production facility. We have noticed a trend over the last year or so with a large number of enquiries where clients want to make a feature out of the ceilings. This demand led to our investment in an additional factory, containing all the latest machinery where we can cut and fold metal to almost any shape.

The installation was completed by Sherwood Interiors Ltd; Darren Killeen from Sherwood Interiors said: “The design called for an open solution where the ceiling was more about aesthetics than acoustics. Working in the retail sector poses many challenges, and we have found that to retain clients a contractor has to meet every new design with an open mind. We have worked with aask us for many years, and trust in their knowledge and ability to produce what is required without any drama. The installation was critical as everything is seen, and we had to strategically place purpose made suspension components to coordinate with the proposed lighting and signage scheme".

COP 21 - What can we do?

Anthony Chadley - Wednesday, December 09, 2015

We are all becoming more aware of the forces of nature, and the effects it will have in our lifetime, and even more concerning how it will change in generations to come.

But what are you doing about it? What choices can you make? Do you make “sustainable” choices when selecting products for the building?

The use of sustainable building materials is only one part of the answer to the environmental issues that affect us all, but it is an increasingly important decision. By using aluminium products you can chose a material whose production has minimal long term impact to the environment, is sustainable in terms of hundreds of years and endlessly recyclable. Aluminium can rightly be said to be the ultimate building material and the building material of choice for the future.

When the old Wembley Stadium was demolished 96% of the aluminium was reclaimed and recycled. The recycling process creates high quality aluminium which loses none of the physical properties of primary aluminium and also uses just 5% of the energy it takes to create primary aluminium.

The life cycle of aluminium products is measured in terms of decades rather than years. As a building material it is durable, requiring little long term maintenance. It is resistant to corrosion and common industrial pollutants giving aluminium products a much longer life cycle even in extreme environmental conditions. The EAA (European Aluminium Association) calls aluminium a ‘cradle to cradle’ material because although a particular product may have an end of life, aluminium as a material can be continually recycled and manufactured into new products.

The use of aluminium in architecture and construction is growing in popularity. At aask us Ltd, over 97% of our products are manufactured in aluminium, making us one of the most environmentally aware suppliers in the industry.

Curved Ceiling at Blackpool

Anthony Chadley - Thursday, November 26, 2015
We are really pleased with how this project turned out. We supplied Hexan Ceilings Ltd with profiles for Blackpool Adult Training Centre and everyone was delighted with a job well done. Steve Clark of Hexan was really struggling with getting these products manufactured and supplied until he contacted us, and after a few samples were provided, agreed that aask us Ltd offered the perfect solution. See if we can help you, email our sales team at sales@aask.us

New name and logo for the AIS

Anthony Chadley - Wednesday, June 17, 2015

After many months of debating and discussions, the new name for the AIS after it's merger has finally arrived.

The name is The FIS, with a total re-branded logo and design.

Personally I think it looks very retro and harks back to the '80s but in fairness it must have been difficult to come up with something that stands out. It will be interesting to hear feedback from other members.

Take a look at the new website at http://thefis.org/
